News that will send shivers through the hearts of the Rebel Alliance and fans throughout the galaxy has been announced: James Earl Jones will be voicing Darth Vader again.
Now hold on to your tauntaun. He has not, at the moment, been announced as lending his magnificent voice to the Sith Lord in J.J. Abrams’s currently filming Episode VIII, but instead will be featured in a cameo in Disney XD’s Star Wars: Rebels. ABC will be re-airing the one hour special Star Wars Rebels: Sparks of Rebellion on Sunday, October 26, and in that episode new footage will be inserted with Jones voicing the iconic character.
“We wanted to do something special for the ABC broadcast. We’ve added a scene which gives audiences insight into the Inquisitor and includes a cameo by Darth Vader voiced by the distinguished actor James Earl Jones,” said executive producer Dave Filoni.
Having Darth Vader appear, even in a cameo, on this series will shoot the series into the stratosphere for ratings, and having him voiced by Jones will only up the hype.
In its debut the show had 6.5 million views and the series has already been renewed for a second season. Merchandise has hit the shelves at Disney theme parks, with tee-shirts having the word “Rebel” spray-painted onto Imperial images (stormtrooper helmets and walkers) selling briskly.
The new film is still over a year away, but James Earl Jones’s addition to Rebels will keep fans’ fervor burning brighter than the suns over Tatoonie.
