May the Verse Be With You: There Can Be Only One

Connor Macleod of the clan Macleod there can be only one

Quickly gaining a cult status, Highlander (1986) was helped by it’s terrific soundtrack. Christopher Lambert faced off against Clancy Brown. Connor Macleod (of the clan Macleod) vs. The Kurgan. We pay our homage, here, to a truly original movie.

There Can Be Only One

Connor Macleod of the clan Macleod

strode into first battle proud,

without concern, noble death to earn,

doing duty that he’d vowed

Fate brought on, there can be only one:

fighting time until they’re gone

all trying, risking everything,

culling numbers, all to none

Final fight, narrowly won;

lights of everyone within him shone

It’s a kind of magic –

fate brought on, there can be only one!

Like so many other fantastical tales SciFiPulse loves Highlander became a franchise. There were sequels, a T.V. series, then a sequel! Other adaptations include comic-books. Some were more popular/ successful than others. The first film stands above all. The novel nature of the story perhaps the main reason. Truly, there can be only one . . .
