Netflix Confirm Release Date for ‘The Witcher’

Netflix is gifting viewers 'The Witcher' for Christmas with a December 20 release date.

Streaming service Netflix has confirmed the release date for their forthcoming television adaptation of ‘The Witcher’. The series, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. In a new trailer released yesterday, Netflix gave fans a look at Henry Cavill in his new role as well as an extended look at the world that Geralt inhabits, which is a continent made up of humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters who are all locked in a fight for survival.

In short. It looks like fantasy fans are set for an epic Christmas because the trailer unveiled the shows release date, which is December 20. This release date is fairly close to one that was leaked a few months back, which was only off by a few days.

Based on the best selling book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, which also spawned a series of hugely popular video games. The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family, which follows Geralt of Rivia on his most deadly mission yet. This new adventure sees him join forces with Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) and the sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).

Together they must travel a continent filled with inter-dimensional demons and even more beastly humans to investigate a dangerous secret that binds them.

Jodhi May, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, MyAnna Buring, Emma Appleton, Lars Mikkelsen, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, Anna Shaffer also star in the series.

Inevitably with it being a fantasy series. ‘The Witcher’ has already been compared with HBO’s hit ‘Game of Thrones’, but one of the show’s stars Royce Pierrseon (who plays Istredd in the Netflix series) disputes that and says it is a world set within its own universe.

“It’s an amazing ensemble piece, and every character has their own journey and their own story,” the actor told Digital Spy.

She went onto add that despite the inevitable comparisons. ‘The Witcher’ has its own unique characters who all have their own struggles, and she feels that the fans will connect with that.

Either way. We here at scifipulse.net can’t wait to check this series out.
