Following on from the success of the television incarnation. Marvel give ‘Jessica Jones’ her first comic book series in what has been close to ten years. And if that isn’t enough excitement for you. The comic is to be written by the team that created her.
Yes. That’s right Jessica Jones creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos are returning and they will be joined by David Mack who will create the covers.
Since being introduced with her series Alias, which ran from 2001-2004, Jessica Jones a failed superhero and private investigator has gone on to star in her own series on Netflix, which saw Krysten Ritter playing the titular role. The biggest surprise for viewers of the show who are not familiar with her comic book history might be her marriage to Luke Cage, with whom she shares a daughter, Danielle, named for Cage’s best friend and fellow superhero Danny Rand (Iron Fist).
The new ‘Jessica Jones’ comic will feature the character tracking down mysteries left unsolved by some of the biggest recent events in the Marvel Universe.
“We’re going to open up a book where Jessica’s world has blown up in her face,” Bendis told IGN of the new series. “She’s at a place you’ll least expect her. You’re going to find all of her relationships have altered. And we’re slowly going to find out why. I do like writing Jessica where we have to figure out ‘why this has happened.'”
When last seen in the comics, Jones was back in the private-eye game, investigating Miles Morales (Spider-Man) for his grandmother in Spider-Man No. 5.
‘Jessica Jones’ will launch in the Autumn under the Marvel NOW! banner.
