The 19th episode of the first season of Batwoman from the CW, entitled, “I’ll tell you a Secret“, was actually an important episode for some very geeky reasons.
From a Comic book lover’s perspective, the latest episode of Batwoman dropped a potential future spoiler and Easter Egg over a at least one if not two villains straight out of DC’s Detective Comics. And many a Batman fan gasped aloud at after hearing the name of Harvey Dent spoken last night.
And if that wasn’t a fun enough Bat-Link, the episode ends with a terrified looking Mouse (Sam Littlefield), gasping for air out of an oxygen mask attached to a cannister of Fear Gas, which screams Scarecrow, to any Bat-Fan!
The only difference between the Harvey Dent reference and the Scarecrow inference was really that one was much more of a potential spoiler than the other. In the Scarecrow’s case, all we see is Mouse in some kind of peril as he is forced to inhale a ton of Scarecrow’s vaunted Fear Gas. This doesn’t seem like a likely future spoiler however, as a canaster of Scarecrow’s Fear Gas could potentially be found in Gotham’s Criminal underworld to be used by any number of nefarious villains or in this case, an ill tempered witch doctor.
But the rather telling reference to one of Batman’s most twisted and famous villains, Harvey Dent, referrered to him as an “aspiring A.D.A.” (Assistant District Attorney) as well as the uncle of the episode’s newly introduced villian, Slashionista, or Duela Dent (Alessandra Torresani).
And doesn’t that just give us an even bigger character to think about from the very depths of Batman’s soul, as Duela Dent is also known in the DC comic universe as none other than “The Joker’s Daughter“. Interestingly, not only did they mentioned that her father is “unknown”, but she was cutting grins into the faces of her victims!? But while it may be too much to think we could see The Joker appear in a future episode of Batwoman, we could very well hear his name spoken a lot more in upcoming episodes.
You don’t have to be the world’s greatest detective to at least be able to infer that Duela Dent will somehow and potentially mature into Daddy’s precious little bad girl as The Joker’s Daughter on Batwoman, with the willing and twisted help of her new found friend, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) of course.
Likewise, when Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson) refered to Duela Dent as ADA Harvey Dent’s niece, the show’s producers may have been hinting at a potential appearance by ADA Harvey Dent in Batwoman. Let’s not forget that in the comics, Harvey Dent rises to the position of Gotham’s District Attorney, before becoming the legendary and lethal super villain, Two-Face. Right now in Batwoman, Harvey Dent is just a lowly Assistant District Attorney.
So we could see a bright faced optimistic Do-Gooder ADA Harvey Dent somehow helping Batwoman out in some manner.
So keep tuning in for more Bat-action with Batwoman appearing on the same Bat-Channel CW every Sunday night at the same Bat-Time, 8:00 pm EST to see how these potential Bat-Easter Eggs may pan out.
