November 7th 2019 (Burlingame, CA)—Tapas Media, the leader in webcomics, is teaming up with Vault Comics, the leading publisher of original, creator-owned sci-fi and fantasy comics, to adapt 4 popular Vault titles into bite-sized, digital comics for worldwide release. Tapas will work with Vault to adapt its sold out smash-hit comic, HEATHEN, digitally.
Created, written and drawn by Natasha Alterici, HEATHEN has amassed a cult following and tells the the story of Aydis, a young, viking warrior who comes out as queer in an age and culture of merciless patriarchy. Her ostracism leads her on a quest to right cultural wrongs with Odin, the leader of the Viking gods. The first volume of the trade paperback, which collects the first four issues, has gone to multiple printings. The book was selected by the Young Adult Library Service Association for its “Great Graphic Novels for Teens” list in 2018 and is being adapted into a feature film by Constantin Film and Prime Universe Films (adapted by Kerry Williamson).
Alongside HEATHEN, Tapas and Vault will also digitally release SONGS FOR THE DEAD from authors Andrea Fort and Michael Christopher Heron, artist Sam Beck and letterer Deron Bennen. SONGS FOR THE DEAD is a beautiful, yet deadly story about the reluctant necromancer that could. Also in the partnership is Fort and Heron’s popular follow up title THE NECROMANCER’S MAP and author Jon Tsuei’s epic, Persian fantasy quest SERA & THE ROYAL STARS drawn by Audrey Mok and brought to life through Raúl Angulo’s colors, with lettering by Jim Campbell. HEATHEN will launch on Tapas in January 2020.
Tapas is the “Youtube for storytellers” — a platform and community for over 50,000 creators, who publish original stories in the form of serialized webcomics and novels.
