Any high flying Hero will tell you that Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disorder in the United States, and one that touches the lives of countless people and families in our community. Knowing what an insidious enemy Autism is, Heroes Alliance Ohio answered the call once again to join and support the real heroes on the front lines against this illness as they help provide treatments and therapies to kids with Autism. Heroes Alliance Ohio was proud to appear at the 2014 Walk Now For Autism Speaks in Columbus at Huntington Park.
Batman, Captain America, Nightwing, Robin, and Spider-Man flew, rode and swung in to support children with autism and their families as Autism Speaks did their best to raise money for research in order to help find new treatments against autism. Thousands of children with autism and their families, all heroes themselves, were in attendance that day and along with the Heroes Alliance team cheered on courageous walkers at both the start and finish of their walk. The event even contained a massive resource fair to provide information about services to Autism Families, arts, crafts, food, drink and entertainment, with a special Thank you going to Stephen Blanzaco for his out-of-costume Hero-support and photography.
While the true Heroes who made the day a worthy one were all of the children and families living with and fighting this disease on a daily basis, the Heroes of Heroes Alliance Ohio are regular every day civilians just like the rest of us who answered the call to help Autism Speaks and it is to them as well that we recognize how small selfless acts of compassionate support helps to turn these citizens into true heroes worthy of the capes, cowls and masks they wear so proudly. Well done to all of the Heroes that helped make Autism a foe whose days are numbered!
Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, to funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism, and to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
