The planned ‘Punisher’ spin-off series, which has hatched from the characters guest stint in the forthcoming second season of ‘Daredevil’ has gotten closer to becoming a reality.
According to a recent report from TV Line the gun toting vigilante played by Jon Bernthal is coming close to getting his own series and Netflix are literally inches away from pulling the proverbial trigger on it.
Fans will get their first look at Bernthal’s Punisher when ‘Daredevil ‘s’ second season premiers on Friday, March 18. The early buzz on the ‘Walking Dead’ alum’s performance is overwhelmingly positive.
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people to second-guess themselves,” previewed exec producer Doug Petrie in a recent interview with EW.com. “Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t.”
For those that have been keeping track. ‘The Punisher’ will mark Marvel’s sixth series set within the Marvel Universe.
As a fan of ‘The Punisher’ having read the comic book a lot during the late 80s. I’m hoping that the television incarnation can redeem the sins of the movie adaptations, which much like ‘Daredevil’ didn’t impress critics or fans. So lets hope that Netflix are able to have as much success for ‘The Punisher’ than they have had for ‘Daredevil’ and the recent ‘Jessica Jones’.
