Although the televised adventures of ‘Torchwood’ grinded to a halt with the rather poorly received ‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’. The series has lived on thanks to some successful Big Finish Audio productions and a few Radio Plays, which have given the series a new lease of life and allowed fans to revisit some of the now deceased characters as well as provide more back story for Captain Jack.
For those that have been missing out on the Big Finish productions of the series. A new comic book series is to launch, which takes place in the same continuity as the hugely successful ‘Torchwood’ audio plays.
John Barrowman and his sister, Carol E. Barrowman (who’ve collaborated on writing in the past, including Torchwood novels and a comic series based on Barrowman’s Arrow character) will be writing the comic. Antonio Fuso and Pasquale Qualano will provide artwork.
The ‘Torchwood’ comic will pick up with Captain Jack’s return to Cardiff, and his arrival back in the life of Gwen Cooper and her husband Rhys, as he goes on the hunt for nefarious technology that’s been claimed by a shadowy organization. It’s classic Torchwood: global threats, big conspiracies, our heroes out-manned and out-gunned and on the run to save the day (and Torchwood as an organization itself).
This new series of ‘Torchwood’ comic books is being released through Titan Comics who have been doing some awesome work with ‘Doctor Who’ and many other comic book titles.
Torchwood #1 is set to release in the US and the UK on July 6th.
