The ‘Van Helsing’ mythology, which was rebooted somewhat in the 2004 movie, which starred Hugh Jackman is to get a TV show for Syfy, but it will have a brand new twist.
The Cable channel is moving forward with a new take on the classic horror series from auteur Neil LaBute (In the Company of Me), but it isn’t actually based around the vampire hunter famously played by Hugh Jackman.
The new take will come from the perspective of Dr Abraham Van Helsing’s daughter Vanessa Helsing, who is resurrected five years into the future after a long sleep.
She will wake up to a world that has been overrun by Vampires, which will make her human kinds last hope.
Van Helsing has been hyped by Syfy as a retelling of Bram Stoker’s mythology in “a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine”.
Production company Nomadic Pictures’ Chad Oakes added: “Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules.
“The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”
