Hot on the heels of ‘Suicide Squad’s’ release, WB and DC have yet again been receiving mixed responses on one of their DCCU instalments. DC Entertainment is three movies in – ‘Man of Steel,’ ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ – and all three have received mediocre to negative reviews from critics while audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes have been more positive than professional critics. With that said, the movies are making a large amount of money. However, they have yet to enter the billion dollar club as a few of Marvel’s movies have.
Regardless, the direction of the DC Cinematic Universe has not only upset some critics and some DC fans, it has royally pissed off one of WB’s employees.
This employee, writing under the name of Gracie Law, has published an open letter to Kevin Tsujihara (CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment) criticizing him and the direction of the company. It is an amazing insight into the company and a must read for anyone interested in the business aspects of movies.
One section that stood out are the author’s comments about the up-coming ‘Wonder Woman’ movie. As the writer states, “Maybe Wonder Woman wouldn’t be such a mess. Don’t try to hide behind the great trailer. People inside are already confirming it’s another mess.”
Currently, what has been revealed about the ‘Wonder Woman’ film has been widely praised by fans. If the ‘Wonder Woman’ film is another DCCU installment that is met with mixed critical response and under performs compared to Marvel’s movies, it will be seen as another sign that DC Entertainment simply can’t compete against Marvel in the movie theaters.
So, what do you all think of this? Do you think the article was written by a real WB employee? Do you agree with their perspective? And are you worried about the ‘Wonder Woman’ like this employee is?
